LED lighting in supermarkets: adding value to the product

1. Extremely competitive retail market. Correct lighting is essential and makes a difference to purchasing decisions, according to various studies.

2. Increased sales. More enhanced products with preserved natural characteristics (less oxidation of rinds, wrappings and color changes in leaves).

3. Doesn't heat up and emit ultraviolet rays like other technologies. This helps immensely in food preservation. It increases shelf life (it lasts longer on display) and at the same time sells more (especially fruit and vegetables) and therefore “boosts” the sector. This also means that the area in question always has fresh and clean food.

4. More efficient than traditional luminaires. Light with economy. This is an indisputable point that everyone already understands, but it's worth reinforcing. In addition to the money in your pocket, it's more environmentally friendly because it uses less energy. The monthly savings on the supermarket's electricity bill quickly pay for the investment (a few months) and then there are savings left over in the till.

5. Easy installation. No complex electrical installations required. Direct to the cable tray. Various models can be “hung” directly from the cable tray.

6. Various color temperatures ranging from 3000 to 6500 Kelvin, allowing better choices for each sector of the supermarket but still using the same model of luminaire (same type of installation and appearance of the body).

7. The light spectrum, light level and exposure time all affect the appearance of the cut meat. Studies have shown no observed beneficial effect of applying filters for ultraviolet radiation or red-enhancing filters. These filters reduce the level of light and influence the visibility of the discoloration. There is no need for filters that “trick” the consumer. The most honest and efficient way is to use lighting that is as close to natural as possible, with as few UV emissions as possible. So LEDs.

8. Leds don't attract flies.
