How can we illuminate cities and, at the same time, avoid problems caused by the absence of darkness?
Based on this question, “Noche Zero” was born, an initiative to connect and share knowledge about the quality of the night sky and take the first steps towards protecting the value of natural darkness at night, incorporating urban light design as part of the solution.
During BIEL Light + Building Buenos Aires 2019 - International Biennial of the Electrical, Electronic and Lighting Industry, Chilean architect Paulina Villalobos, co-founder and director of Noche Zero, a specialist in lighting design, explained more about the concept.
“We decided to bring together people who work and are connected to urban lighting design, to examine what the effect of light is on pollution in our ecosystems, on human health, in cities, and thus discuss the value of darkness and how to manage the balance of light in the cities of the future, including what urban populations have lost through the lack of darkness. We want to bring together the main global exponents of urban lighting design to demonstrate that design and quality of life combined with environmental protection are possible.”
The Noche Zero initiative seeks to promote lighting design planning in cities to preserve the nature of the night and the starry sky.
ONNO LED and VARIXX are taking part in the important Biennale in order to update their knowledge and keep up with trends.
